Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. Matthew 16:18
If you have attended growth track, you have probably encountered this question when we discuss the governance of the church. “Who is the head of the church.” The correct answer is Jesus. The church was His idea. He clearly exclaims, “I will build my church!” We causally refer to Commission as “our church” or “my church” and as much as there is truth to that; lets not forget that it’s His church.
Year two of church planting is considered to be a crucial year of growth. As soon as we stepped into year two, COVID blew up in our face. I won’t lie, I was stressed and mentally depleted. I started questioning God’s plan and through it all, he reminded me that it wasn’t my church it was His. I was assured that if this was His plan, God would take care of us. God raised so many people within the church to step up and deliver online services for 6 months in the middle of a severe pandemic. It was yet another reminder that God is always on the throne busy building his church.
We don’t have to worry about future of Jesus’ church but we are tasked to pray. The church has been persecuted and threatened with extinction time after time. Be it Saul or the muslim conquest, the middle ages, the world wars all tried to end the church but Jesus’s words “and the gates of hell will not prevail” held true. The church always prayed in the middle of the fire. Let us pray without ceasing.
God has always used people to build places of His dwelling. He used Moses to build the tabernacle, Solomon to build the temple. These men came and went but God’s presence continued to live on. Jesus will build his church at exactly his pace and his time. He will build Commission Church at his pace and multiply us in his time. Listen to Andrew as he shares from this subject.
